From Engineering Roots to Infrastructure Intelligence
Gizil was founded by two engineers who shared a common belief: some of the world's biggest industrial challenges cannot be solved by software alone, nor by engineering alone.
After gaining experience in the energy and industrial sectors, our founders, both holding dual engineering degrees, recognized an opportunity to modernize industrial infrastructure through engineering services and industrial project execution. Driven by an entrepreneurial mindset, they decided to build a company focused on helping industrial organizations solve complex infrastructure challenges.
What started as an engineering journey soon revealed a much larger opportunity.
The Industry Was Changing. The Tools Were Not.
Across critical industries such as energy, chemicals, storage terminals, utilities and manufacturing, digital transformation was accelerating. Yet inside many industrial facilities, reality looked very different.
Paper-based workflows remained common. Infrastructure information was fragmented across disconnected systems and documents. Critical engineering knowledge often existed only in the minds of experienced professionals approaching retirement.
At the same time, attracting a new generation workforce into traditional industrial sectors was becoming increasingly difficult. Then came another challenge. Geopolitical developments, supply chain disruptions and growing resilience requirements highlighted the need for facilities that could be managed more efficiently, with fewer site interventions and better access to infrastructure information.
The Birth of Virtual Plant®
These challenges inspired a new vision. Rather than creating another complex digital twin solution, we asked a different question:
What if industrial organizations could instantly access trusted infrastructure intelligence built around existing assets?
This vision became Virtual Plant®. A platform and methodology designed specifically for brownfield environments, helping organizations understand, validate, connect and manage infrastructure information across the entire lifecycle of industrial assets. Because before organizations can optimize, automate or apply AI, they first need trusted infrastructure intelligence.
Why Düsseldorf?
In 2022, Gizil established its headquarters in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Located in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia; one of Europe's largest industrial regions, Düsseldorf provides direct access to chemical clusters, energy infrastructure, manufacturing leaders, logistics hubs and one of the continent's most dynamic innovation ecosystems.
For us, NRW was not only a location choice. It was the ideal environment to build a company at the intersection of industry, engineering and technology.
